To show our commitment to inclusion, access, and diversity in education, Intercultural Adventures offers an annual scholarship for gap year counseling. Each spring we will award one US high school senior with 100% of our counseling services for free.

The scholarship application is now closed for 2019. You may read the details below of the annual scholarship. Please check back in January 2020 for the application deadlines.

What does the scholarship include?

  • Phone conversations and emails with an experienced gap year counselor to structure plans, ask questions, and counseling

  • Comprehensive, personalized plan with structured 5-6 program recommendations per academic year based on student’s assessment and input

  • Continuous monitoring of each stage of the gap year planning process (organization of gap time, selection of programs, applications, acceptances, confirmations, and pre-departure preparation)

  • Assistance navigating college deferral policies

  • Application support, resume editing, and interview prep as needed

  • Logistical advice (visa, airfare, health and medication needs)

  • Extensive expertise on safety and risk management for selected programs and locations

  • Providing positive support, encouragement, and professional expertise throughout this process

Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Current high school senior planning a gap year starting in summer or fall after graduation

  • Demonstrates financial need

  • Willingness to share your gap year plans and journey over social media and with future gap year students

  • Desire to curiously explore new cultures, develop global competence, and positively impact the world

Application Details

  • Submit an essay: in 500 hundred word or less, tell us why you want to take a gap year and what it means to you

  • Proof of financial need

  • Provide two references academic and/or professional
